about

I've written another springtime song. Upon hearing it, I couldn't help but think of Snufkin, the little musical vagabond and best friend to Moomintroll in Tove Jansson's "Tales From Moominvalley". If you're unfamiliar with these magical stories, please do yourself a favor and google them.

In Jansson's short story, "The Spring Time," Snufkin ponders his next tune as he walks through the forest, reveling in his solitude: "'It's the right evening for a tune,' Snufkin thought. A new tune, one part expectation, two parts spring sadness, and for the rest just the great delight of walking alone and liking it." As I pondered how to explain this song, it struck me that Snufkin's formula comes close enough.

lyrics

If I were to paint the sunrise again
I'd pick tomorrow
And take it with me where I'm going
Look at this
The dawn advancing
Everything we'd hoped to know by now
