about

Notes: It's incredibly surreal to wake up today to find this project 11 years old, particularly because it seems like only yesterday that I celebrated the 10th anniversary. This year evaporated, didn't it? As usual, I have a gift to say thank you. I have compiled a free download of my favorite tracks from the past year, 27 of them in total. Head to linktr.ee/mounteverestmusic to get it.

I loved year 11 on my weekly writing and recording project. It felt comfortable. It felt natural. I rarely had to force it. That doesn't mean that every track was a home run, but I'm proud of my year's output. I wrote mostly simple songs this time, but most of them had a point of view and something worth saying.

This new song is about looking for something to believe in, and trying to be a good person. These lofty goals seem simpler than they are when I write them out like that. I suspect I'll always be working at them.

I always like to use these anniversary posts as an opportunity to express my gratitude, which is appropriate because it will be Thanksgiving this week. I am grateful to too many people to list. I will forget someone and feel awful, so if you have ever collaborated, listened, shared a link, or liked a post, I'm grateful and I keep doing this because of you. I am most indebted to my parents, Nancy and Gene, and my wife, Rebecca. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your stalwart love and encouragement.

I'm really looking forward to sharing more music with you in the months and years to come. Thanks for being here, and thanks for listening.

lyrics

Later on I get wise
I feel expired sometimes
I catch myself in a white lie

If the world we know is not a real place
Then the pain we've known was never real pain
What would we do with that anyway?

God of the wood
Of the street
Of the sun
Whichever one
Grant me a life and I'll do right
At least I'll try

It's hard to say the right thing
It's hard to mean exactly what you're saying
Can good intentions take you far enough?

All we ever wanted
All we ever dreamed of
On the tips of our tongues
Anyway

God of the wood
Of the street
Of the sun
Whichever one
Grant me a life and I'll do right
At least I'll try
